The Staff Orientation Programme on the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP), held on the 25th and 26th of May 2025 at the St Joseph's Indian Primary School Auditorium, marked a significant initiative in the ongoing professional development of the Jesuit teaching community. Organized under the stewardship of Rev. Fr. Nobert Menezes SJ, this two-day event brought together dignitaries and faculty from all St. Joseph Indian units, fostering a spirit of unity and shared purpose.
The primary objective of the orientation was to immerse educators in the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm, a model rooted in the rich legacy of St. Ignatius of Loyola and Jesuit education. The program sought to inspire teachers to integrate Ignatian values-such as reflection, discernment, and a commitment to justice-into their daily teaching practice, with the ultimate aim of nurturing students who are not only academically competent but also compassionate and conscientious global citizens.
The orientation commenced with a solemn prayer and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by the introduction of the keynote speaker by the institution’s Rector Rev. Fr. Joseph D'souza SJ and a message from the PU College Vice Principal, Mr Pradeep Kumar. The first day consisted of sessions aimed at introducing the IPP and its historical context, emphasizing the vision of St. Ignatius and the evolution of Jesuit education. Day two was dedicated to hands-on application, focusing on the essential steps of lesson planning within the IPP framework. Teachers engaged in collaborative exercises to design lesson plans that incorporated the five key elements of the paradigm. These exercises emphasized the need to understand each student’s background, foster deep reflection and encourage value-driven action.
The Orientation acted as a bridge to introduce the collaborators to the framework of Jesuit teaching and equipped them with strategies to meet the challenges of a complex and changing world. The impact of the orientation was palpable and overwhelmingly positive.
