3. Mission

The Humanities Department is committed to cultivating a deep appreciation for the diverse expressions of human experience across history and cultures. Our mission is to foster intellectual curiosity, ethical reasoning and effective communication while promoting interdisciplinary learning and social responsibility.

4. Student Strength

From the year 2015, around 500 students have graduated till date from the HEPyS stream.

5. Infrastructure & Facilities

Our classrooms are furnished with comprehensive infrastructure, including both traditional chalkboards and modern smart boards, creating an environment that nurtures intellectual curiosity and encourages exploratory learning.

6. Teaching Methodologies

Different subjects within humanities employ varied methodologies to enhance learning:

  • History: Emphasizes collaborative understanding and inferential thinking.
  • Economics: Uses demonstrative, situational, and experiential learning approaches.
  • Psychology: Incorporates pictorial representations to aid comprehension.
  • Sociology: Engages students through visual learning and critical analysis.

7. Achievements & Highlights

  • Students emerged as winners in the “Social Scientist” competition held at Christ University during the academic year 2024–25.
  • Secured top positions in model-making competitions at St. Joseph’s University (SJU) themed on Sustainable and Ecological Environment.
  • Won a poster-making competition at NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences).

8. Student Support & Mentoring

Students receive dedicated support and mentoring from teachers. One-on-one counselling sessions help address academic and personal concerns while encouraging positive personality development aligned with the values and ethics of the college.

10. Department Activities & Initiatives

The department offers a variety of activities that enhance academic learning and personal growth:

  • Aakruthi: A platform for academic activities such as debates, presentations, Samskruthi events, and student markets.
  • Historical Visits: Educational trips to historical sites to deepen students’ understanding of culture and heritage.
  • NGO Visits: Exposure to social work environments that develop empathy and real-world awareness.
  • NIMHANS Visits: Guided visits to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences for practical insights into mental health and psychology.

11. Future Plans

  • Enhancing Aakruthi with intercollegiate competitions, guest lectures, and student-led research presentations.
  • Organizing interdisciplinary historical and cultural tours connecting classroom learning with real-world contexts.
  • Strengthening collaborations with NGOs for community engagement and field-based research.
  • Expanding mental health awareness programs through collaboration with institutions like NIMHANS.
  • Establishing a Humanities Research Cell to encourage student research publications and participation in conferences.

At the Humanities Department we believe that education goes beyond textbooks. Our mission is to nurture critical thinkers, empathetic individuals and socially responsible citizens. Through our academic and co-curricular activities, we provide students with opportunities to connect classroom learning to real-world experiences.

As we look to the future, our focus remains on creating a dynamic and inclusive academic environment. I am proud of the dedication shown by our faculty and the enthusiasm of our students. Together, we are building a department that upholds the values of intellectual growth, integrity and social consciousness.
